For anyone visiting this city, I would surely recommend going to this fort. Let me take you through all the charm this place holds.

In 2013, one of its walls collapsed due to heavy rain that continued for several days.

History of Bahu Fort

It was constructed some 3000 years ago by Raja Bahulochan near the banks of Tawi River.

It was renovated for the first time 200 years ago during the Sikh rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

The structure of the fort was refurbished by Maharaja Ghulab Singh in the 19th century.

Once the brother of Bahulochan went for hunting. When he reached the Tawi lake, he saw a sheep and a lion drinking water peacefully without any intention of a lion trying to eat the sheep. He then thought the place to be very peaceful and unique and decided to build his castle here. A few years later bahulochan built the fort there.

Structure of Bahu Fort

The fort is located 325 Meters above, opposite to Jammu city.

It has eight towers that are connected to the walls made of sandstones.

On the right side, there is a pyramidal structure that was used for defence, and underneath there was a prison that was also used as an emergency exit. There are halls where meetings were held by the masters of the fort.
