HISTORY OF SHEESH MAHAL
The Palace was built by Maharaja Narinder Singh in the year 1847. It was built for residential purpose and the designs of the mirror work were chosen by Maharaja himself. The detailed work done on the walls with coloured glass and beautiful wall paintings adds glory to the beauty of the palace.
All these were made by special artists who were under the maharaja’s scrutiny. The precision and perfection of the wall work make a lasting impression on the audiences.

The Palace of mirrors has great architecture. It was initially built in 1847 but in 2017 it’s renovation was completed. The mahal was a residential area built behind old Moti Bagh Palace.
It has an artificial lake in the centre of the palace across which a bridge is built known as the Lakshman Jhoola. It is named so because it resembles the Lakshman Jhoola of Rishikesh. The Kangra paintings on the walls distinctly show the scenes of the stories of Radha Krishna. Along with it’s inner beauty,

BEST TIME TO VISIT Sheesh mahal
Entry to the palace of mirrors is completely free and the timings to visit are 10 am to 9 pm. But it can only be visited from Tuesday to Sunday as Monday is a holiday. Since Punjab is in the north so the best time to visit here is from October to February when the weather is pleasant and cool. Summer visits are not so preferred. Another option to visit the mahal can be during cultural festivals. This will make your trip more enjoyable.

Sheesh, Mahal can be easily reached through auto, rickshaw or car when within Patiala. Bus and train services are also there. Airports in nearby areas make it easier for foreign tourists to reach there.
